May 2016 Printz Contender Update

printzcontendergraphicSo – this is obviously quite late – and I haven’t entered any June stars in the spreadsheet yet. The following things have contributed to this: our Summer Book Buddies program has over 100 readers registered this year – that’s 20 more than we’ve every had before – which means I’m now supervising 105 high school volunteers helping with that and 9 other summer volunteer programs; my Grandma turned 90 this summer so we had a big family celebration that knocked out a bunch of my weekend time; as my previous post noted, I was lucky enough to get to go to ALA this year; a good friend is getting married and there was a bachelorette lake house weekend event to attend; and finally – a grant we were told was due July 31 was actually due July 1 which means that’s all I spent the last two days on basically. Phew! The life of a public librarian in the summer!

But enough about me – for information on how I’m creating these lists see the April Printz Update. The first list is more traditional contenders. The 2nd list is the titles that just barely touch the age range or are non-fiction.

92 titles have been awarded 3 or more stars this year (6 stars-2, 5 stars-5, 4 stars-25, 3 stars-60). 1 of the 5 star books is too young; 9 of the 4 star books are too young, 26 of the 3 star books are too young. That leaves us with 56 books to consider. Books that are new to the list this month are in bold.
